greece

These film photos capture my trip to Greece in May 2023. Along with two of my closest friends, I visited Athens and two of the Greek islands: Andros and Santorini. In Athens, I was surprised by the hills and greenery of the busy city, finding flowers bursting out of street corners and garden gates. It was strange to be in the midst of such everyday things like motorcycles and graffiti and look up to see the ancient Acropolis above the city. I also enjoyed seeing the museums in Athens and remembering my favorite Greek myths. On Andros, the island my friend’s family comes from, I loved the green landscapes and the small villages on cliffs. One evening we walked to a tiny, gravity-defying white church perched on a rocky cliff over the ocean, accessible by a flight of white stairs. Andros felt peaceful and picturesque. Finally reaching Santorini from Andros after a multi-hour ferry ride, it felt like another planet. The volcanic island has a dry and harsh climate and sheer, rocky cliffs that rise out of the ocean. The classic white buildings of Thira and Oia sit at the very top of the island, hundreds of feet above the water. My favorite day on Santorini was the short boat trip we did to Nea Kameni, the small central island inside Santorini’s archipeligo. There, we hiked up a volcanic hill of lava rocks and jumped off the boat to swim in the sea.
